>> In a mail survey of 1382 older adults (where “older” means 45 years of age or older) conducted by the AARP

* 60% of those aged 45 to 69 have s*x (intercourse, just to be clear) at least once per week
* 30% of men and 24% of women aged 60 to 74 have s*x at least weekly
* 25% of those over the age of 75% have s*x at least once per week

Someone who does not fall into the “older” group quipped that many “older” people are having more s*x than us “younger” people. She was trying to be funny, but she sounded bitter.

>> According to that same survey, most (whatever “most” means) older couples found their mates more attractive as they aged. I am going to guess that Hugh Hefner does not fall into that “most” category.

>> Nursing homes generally don’t make accommodations for older people who want to have s*x. Should we facilitate this? How do we facilitate this? Specially designated, private rooms for s*x? Do they require reservations? Should the person about to have s*x ask his or her roommate to leave? What about demented patients? Do they have the decisional capacity to consent for sexual activity? How do we document this? Should nursing homes provide free condoms?

>> There is apparently no correlation between testosterone levels and the ability to achieve erection in men (citation; no abstract).

>> Psychogenic erectile dysfunction (where “erectile dysfunction” refers to any problems with achieving erection, whether that be inconsistent erections, inability to have any erections, difficulty maintaining an initial erection, etc.) varies inversely with age. That means the younger you are, the more likely your erectile dysfunction problems are due to non-physiologic reasons.. but rather due to performance anxiety, etc. Being anxious does not facilitate erections.
